Online counselling services for trauma exposed professionals in BC
Who are Trauma Exposed Professionals?
Trauma-exposed professionals (TExPs) directly and/or vicariously encounter psychologically traumatic events as part of their occupational roles. TExPs include, but are not limited to, health care professionals (e.g., nurses, physicians), first responders (e.g., firefighters, paramedics, police), public safety personnel (e.g., correctional workers), and members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Due to the nature of occupational trauma exposure, TExPs are at an elevated risk for a range of psychological challenges.
Many professionals, who provide services our society relies on, are left burdened by the important work they do. Careers that are foundational to one’s sense of self, that create purpose and community, often leave professionals with distress that is hard, if not impossible, to process alone. Here, professionals may work in environments that are incredibly unique, and difficult for others to understand – making it hard to find support when needed.
As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), I provide counselling to trauma exposed professionals, with specific competencies in occupational trauma and stress injuries. Here, clients may be wishing to work through concerns including, but not limited to:
Frequent exposure to traumatic events at work
Specific occupational critical incidents
Sexual violence in the workplace
The impact of workplace cultures
Having trouble “switching off” your work self
An unwanted blurring of the line between professional and personal life
Moral injury
Exploration of work and identity
